I used to pour around 78C and was getting some smooth tops yet sinking around the wick. I decreased the pour temp to 66-68C and I get the creamiest tops now. I've found 8-8.5% FO is best with the wicks we use. We've tested a number of them and the LX and CD wicks work best for us. The initial pour normally results in creamy white tops, yet the candles will normally dry with light pitting after burning. That's just the normal state of soy wax. I explain this to my customers that the tradeoff with using no paraffin in candles with a natural wax is the pitting after burns. Nobody has had an issue with it and they appreciate the education about the wax. They still prefer this natural wax due to the lack of paraffin (even though I tell them the paraffin is food grade on their produce, in chewing gum, etc).. 454 is the main wax we use in our business. I'm going to experiment by adding some beeswax to see if I can extend the burn time some.
